Pigs in Heaven — Barbara Kingsolver

Turtle and Taylor are on vacation when Turtle sees someone fall into the resevoir at the Hoover Dam.  This act of kindness, of getting the person out, causes a chain of events which threaten to take Turtle away form her adoptive mother.  It includes a zealous native american named Annawake Fourkiller, a life size Barbie, and the bringing together of Taylor and her mother Alice.  (Not to mention Jax, Taylor’s boyfriend.)

This story is one of trials and finding out who you want to be and who you want to be with.  Kingsolver writes amazingly and you find yourself immersed in the story, becoming attached to the characters.

This book is very good by itself, but is a sequel to her earlier novel The Bean Trees, where Taylor first meets Turtle.  Both are very good and I recommend almost anything by Barbara Kingsolver.
